An Overview of Common Logical Fallacies

An Overview of Common Logical Fallacies:
“reverse ad populism”: the fallacious argument that concludes that a proposition is false because most people believe it. Just because something is unpopular, doesn’t make it true.

Example:
The conviction of various fringe and conspiracy groups that their version of events must be the correct one, because the masses are ‘brainwashed sheeple,’ or their rejection of ‘mainstream’ scholarship.

The point is that being in the minority on something doesn’t give you a superior claim on the truth. It’s irrelevant either how many or how few people share your opinion. You always have to look at the arguments & evidence when evaluating a claim.

Bottom line:
Everyone should have a basic grasp of Philosophy. Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t even care about how to effectively debate or even think rationally.
The concept behind the logical fallacies is when you want to avoid comprehending your opponent’s argument in order to counter it with something.
